Planting trees
Planting trees with each new account opened! So far we've planted 20,705 trees!
At WMCU, we’ve always focused on doing what’s best for people in our communities, and helping them thrive financially. So, it made sense to help our environment thrive too. As part of Bloom Credit Union's partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, for every new WMCU account opened, we've been planting a tree in a forest of great need in Michigan.
If you think about it, trees are kind of amazing. They are important to our environment and they enrich our lives in so many ways. They not only help reduce the effects of climate change by capturing excess carbon, but they also:
- Provide habitat for wildlife
- Support our health and well-being
- Clean our air and water-helping us breathe easier
- Beautify and cool our communities
- Help nurture biodiversity and endangered species thrive
- Provide a buffer against extreme weather
- Reduce the effects of deforestation

Supporting our local community
We donated $6,400 in 2025!
WMCU values the communities we serve and aims to reinvest in the where our members reside, work, and worship. To show our support for our community, we implemented a team member donation program in 2024.
We have set aside money for every team member to give back to the community! On behalf of WMCU, every team member has the opportunity to donate money to one local West Michigan charitable organization of their choosing.
In 2025, over 60 team members chose different organizations across West Michigan and we donated $6,400! In 2026, so far, we have donated to organizations such as Henry's Heart, Hot Mess Express, Special Days Camps. CASA of Kent County, Montcalm County Conservation, and more!
We are so proud to take a community first approach to hightlight local organizations that are making our team members', and so many others', lives be simply better.
Donating Books
We donated more than 1,600 books!
At West Michigan Credit Union, we partnered with Giving Tree Books to promote children’s literacy by publishing high-quality, elementary-level books and providing them free to children from under-resourced communities in West Michigan.
We collected monetary donations at all of our locations to help every child in West Michigan have a book to call their own. We visited elementary schools and donated books near each of our five branches: Harrison Park Academy in Grand Rapids, Brookside Elementary in Big Rapids, G. T. Norman Elementary in Reed City, Manistee Elementary in Manistee, and Pine River Elementary in Cadillac.
